Whether you’re heading across the state or the globe, a little planning can help protect your finances while you’re away.

Here are a few TelComm Credit Union travel tips:

  • Carry Some Local Currency – When traveling internationally, cash is still king in many places—especially for small purchases or markets that don’t accept plastic cards.
  • Use a Visa TravelMoney® Card – Get a Visa TravelMoney® card instead of using your credit or debit card for another layer of protection. Just load the amount of money you want available, you can reload as needed.
  • Keep Your Wallet Close – Don’t carry all your cards in one place. Consider using a travel wallet or money belt for extra security.
  • Watch for Skimming Devices Placed on ATMs or Gas Pumps – Be cautious at ATMs and gas stations. Pay inside at the counter when buying gas and withdraw cash from an ATM inside the financial institution when possible.
  • Give Notice To Your Financial Institution – For big trips please let your credit union know you are going out of state/ country and the dates so your cards work properly and are not declined appearing as fraudulent. You can also set travel notes on TCU’s Mobile Banking platform yourself, just log in to set it up.
  • Check For International Fees – Clarify if there are any international service fees when using a debit or credit card in another country. TCU does not charge those fees on any TelComm credit cards

Wherever you go, stay safe, secure, and bring home a lot of memories!
